When you are using Enlight.com, you are agreeing to these Terms as detailed below.
You acknowledge that we, Enlight21, Enlight21.com, Enlight21, Inc., Ivy Academics, Inc., (the parent company), the “Site” can change the Terms and Conditions whenever we think it is necessary. We will try our best to let you know when changes are made.

1. Accounts and Age Eligibility

You agree that you will have only one account.

If you create multiple accounts whether under aliases or not, that will constitute grounds for banning you from Enlight21.com

You agree that you will never use another User’s account without written permission.

When you register, you need to give us your real name, one that you use at school and/or at work.  You cannot claim to be someone else. 

However, you can choose to use a username with your posts and profile after you register with your real name..  We understand that some people are reluctant to use their real names with their posts when interacting with members of the Site.  In other words, while we allow pseudonyms/usernames with posts and on your profile page, we must have a copy of your real name in our records at all times.

To register for an account,  you must be at least 13 years old.  If you are not 13 yet, you may register under a parent’s name.

2. Phone, Texts. and Email Communications

When you register, you need to give us your real, valid phone number and your phone number needs to be current, meaning that if you change numbers, you need to let us know by changing your number in your account. We must have a copy of your real phone number in our records at all times. You agree to receive phone and/or text messages from us for validation and other purposes.  We promise that we will NOT send commercial third party advertisements to your phone or your email without your permission. 

Enlight21.com is not about advertisements and getting people to buy products. We have no plans to adopt a conventional advertising model that accepts practically all advertisements, because such revenue generation methods corrupt and militate against serving the common good.  We may, from time to time, support ethical businesses that are trying to sell healthy, humanely-produced goods and services.

We will, however, send you occasional  emails about the Site’s new features, events, changes, updates, etc., and we will, of course, send you regular notification of responses to your posts and questions, including the posts of other members whose writings we think may be of interest to you.

3.  Account Termination and Unacceptable Behavior

We have the right to terminate your account (ban you) from using Enlight21.com if we deem that your behavior has adversely affected the Site and other members.  

Unacceptable behaviors include but are not limited to explicit pornographic writings/posts and photos, advocating illegal acts, and using the Site to recruit others to engage in illegal acts, violating the one account per person rule, etc. You will also be temporarily banned if law enforcement officials contact us about possible criminal behavior on your part, in which case, we will cooperate with law enforcement if we have reason to believe that there are valid reasons for their request for information about you. You can request reinstatement of your membership if you are later found to be innocent.

4. Site Content and Your Posts 

You may summarize content written by the Site’s staff and use excerpts and quotes, but when you do that, you need to cite Enlight21.com as the source and provide links back to the article on our site.  If you wish to republish the entire content of a piece of writing, please ask for our permission first.  In most cases, it will not be a problem as long as you attribute it to Enlight.com and provide links back to our site.

You cannot, however, use the photos on the Site as many of our photos are purchased from vendors who have given us limited rights to use them. These companies hold the copyrights to the photos, so you will be violating their copyright. 

5. Plagiarizing, Hijacking, and Content Rights

Do not try to imitate our site by using a similar-sounding name or creating a similar-looking website. Most of all, you cannot hijack Enlight21.com by taking our content wholesale and displaying it on your site. We will take legal action in these cases.  

The Site’s content created by Enlight21.com’s members is the property of the individual authors. Members are free to determine their own copyright policies and to change them at will. Currently, we are operating on the assumption that members’ writings will be treated the same way as Enlight.com’s staff content, so you are free to summarize and use quotes and excerpts, but you need to attribute them to the author and provide links back to the article on Enlight21.com. If you want to use the writings in their entirety, you should ask the author for permission.

It is obvious that by posting your writings on Enlight21.com, you are giving us the right to publish your writings in their entirety.  You are also giving us the right to disseminate your writings to other members and potential members of the Site’s community through emails and other methods and to our partner organizations.  

We do not tolerate plagiarism, which includes taking other people’s content and/or identity and taking people’s photos for your own use.  Members cannot give others permission to use their identity.  Members may give other members written permission to use their content and photos.

Do not steal people’s photos. You should look for photos yourself.  

If you slander people or make groundless accusations, remember that you are the responsible party, not us.

If you discover that someone is using your content and/or photos without your permission, you should let us know right away at:  [email protected]

6.   Content Responsibility

We have staff who post articles, often expressing opinions, in sections such as News, Election Central, Must Read, Queries, Answers to Queries, Opinions, and other sections as well as in their own blogs. We also have volunteer community bloggers who post their thoughts, reflections, and analyses in the blogs section and occasionally, upon request, in the other sections such as News, Election Central, Must Read, Queries, Opinions, etc., A wide range of views will be expressed.   Note that we are not responsible for these opinions and views.  So, do not assume that anything you read on the Site represents Enlight21.com’s views.

Content generated by members is the exclusive responsibility of these members.  We do not guarantee the accuracy of such content.  

Therefore, we are not liable for any community-generated content.

Enlight.com is not responsible for monitoring the site for content that is unlawful, illegal, offensive, and inappropriate. But we reserve the right to do all of the foregoing. However, if you notice such content, do let us know at:  [email protected]

7. Disclaimers:

We are not liable for site breakdown, loss of data, or content lapses such as stating that something is a fact when there may be evidence to the contrary.  

8. Disclosing Certain Information

If we are served with an official court order such as a subpoena for information, we will look into it to make sure it is reasonable and does not infringe on our First Amendment rights.  If it meets our criteria, we may release the information to government agencies with or without your written consent.

9.  Use Outside the U.S. and Export Controls

Portions of the Site may be subject to United States export controls. You agree to comply with such export controls, as well as similar such controls in any applicable jurisdiction.  Without limiting the foregoing, you agree that no software from the Site may be downloaded, exported or re-exported (a) into (or to a national or resident of) to any country to which the United States has embargoed goods; or (b) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department’s list of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Commerce Department’s Table of Deny Orders.

10. Limited Liability 

Enlight21.com, Enlight21, Inc., our parent company, Ivy Academics Inc., and partners, OUR RESPECTIVE LICENSORS OR SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY, OR OTHER DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SITE OR ANY CONTENT, SERVICES OR OTHER INFORMATION AVAILABLE THROUGH IT, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF REVENUES, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR LOSS OR CORRUPTION OF DATA, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

IF YOU ARE DISSATISFIED WITH THE SITE OR ANY OF THE CONTENT,  MATERIALS, SERVICES OR INFORMATION AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SITE, YOUR SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY IS TO DISCONTINUE ACCESSING AND USING OUR SITE.

Any claim you file against us shall be limited to the amount that you paid, if any, for the use of our site.

If you violate these Terms and Conditions, and as a result, we suffer harm from your actions, you will be responsible. 

If you suffer harmful consequences from any violation of these Terms and Conditions, you are responsible, not us. 

In the event that our community is attacked for our exercise of our First Amendment rights, we reserve the right to mount legal defenses 

11.  Laws and Courts of Adjudication

Any Dispute Between Us Will be adjudicated in California courts. All these Terms and Conditions are under the jurisdiction of the laws of the United States and the laws of the state of California.  These legal conditions as to jurisdiction will apply to present and future agreements regardless of conflict of laws principles.
