Endangered Species Act Significantly Undermined
Author: | Category: Environment | Date: 11-29-2019
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken a first step towards weakening the 1973 Endangered Species Act.
The new regulations will make it much easier to remove species from the Endangered Species list, and current wildlife on the threatened species list (one step down from Endangered Species) will not be as well protected as they are now. Also, the effects of climate change on habitats will not receive much weight when decisions are being made regarding logging, land use, etc.
This is all to say that these new regulations are meant to pave the way for clearcutting (deforestation), oil/gas exploitation, and housing developments. (more)
