Tom Steyer’s Candidacy

A piece by Paul Waldman, a Washington Post opinion writer, questions why Steyer is running for president. Overall, Waldman compliments Steyer for all his positive accomplishments on behalf of progressive causes, especially in combating climate change. But he poses some good questions that Steyer has not yet answered. The primary question is: Why is Steyer running for president as there are candidates in the Dem field that share his progressive values and principles? (more)
Progressives believe that Steyer is well-intentioned. Based on his history of helping progressive politicians and the environment, no one doubts his authenticity and his probity, but as Helaine Olen, the author of an op-ed in the Washington Post, opines, “his virtuous politics can’t disguise the truth: He’s buying his way into a race… their money gives them an outsize influence, no matter what their positions. Steyer has never held elected office, and there’s no evidence the public is clamoring for his candidacy” (more)
