At a very young age, I always enjoyed picking up camcorders and cameras to shoot photos and film unforgettable family moments. Looking back at these photos and videos allowed me to realize my deep interest in visual arts my whole life so far. Nowadays, as I have continued to make short films and host photoshoots with close friends, I have come to a realization that my true passion in life is visual arts, and I dream to pursue a career through these forms of art.

I have had a very difficult time discovering my interests in the past. From a very young age, I drew interest in automobiles, boats, planes, etc. As I grew older, however, my attention was shifted to building and architectural design. Yet these two past passions of mine I have never entirely committed to. From about 12 years old to the present day, I found an undying interest in filmmaking and photography. I thought to myself that pursuing a career in this artistic field would require a lot of grit and persistence, but at the same time, I will be enjoying myself throughout the process.

To build a strong foundation for my experience in film and photo, I started slowly. On every family summer vacation, I would bring my waterproof camera and snap a picture so almost everything we encountered. I would also borrow my father's camcorder to record short clips of the highlights of our trip. These small actions may appear useless and pathetic to doubters, but my actions were to show them the consistent commitment I had to build a passion for visual arts.

After gaining a decent amount of experience in film and photo, I decided to take my passion to a higher level by attending visual arts programs and high school film classes. While many in my high school video production class found the instructor and the class itself very underwhelming and burdensome, I was one of the few students who enjoyed the hour-long lectures of the analyses of films; directing short films was even more entertaining for me. The whole process of making a short film-developing a concept, writing the script, producing the film, and editing the clips- all contributed to the experience I had in the film. My gritty attitude towards working hard on every film I directed and produced impressed my teacher and my classmates. My satisfaction with film grew stronger, and I finally understand that film was one of the interests I was dedicated to.

Photography is the second part of the visual arts career I had really enjoyed lately. When I was first introduced to a digital camera, all I had in mind was to snap photos of only nature and wildlife. what enhanced my passion for photography, however, was the wide range of photography styles I could engage myself with: Urban, nature, portrait, macro, travel, Astro, and street photography. In the past few years, I've [practiced shooting in various locations, studying the light, shadows, and many more traits that determine the best quality of every shot taken,

For now, I'm nowhere near the professional levels of photo and film. I have a long way to go before I qualify myself as a pro or at least experienced enough. Yet through participating in photo competitions, directing independent film projects that I have in mind, hosting photoshoots, and constructing my visual arts portfolios, I can establish a clear path for my future career, and gain plenty of practice and knowledge to be regarded as a legitimate filmmaker and photographer.
