1.  Who or what is behind the spread of "replacement theory?"   Define this theory in your own words.

2;  Given that there have been several mass murders by people who were driven by their belief in replacement theory, do you think the government should regulate the spread of such toxic narratives in the media?

1. Replacement theory is the conspiracy that elites are letting non-White people come into America to take over. Republicans and other right-wing figures have been spreading this narrative. Examples of these politicians include Newt Gingrich and Elise Stefanik. One person in particular, Fox ...Read more News' Tuck Carlson, has been promoting replacement theory the hardest. 2. I feel that there should be some level of government control over what is presented in media. However, even if it are toxic narratives that the government will be cracking down on, there could be widespread backlash as the move may be seen as the 1st amendment, the freedom of speech, being overturned. I feel that this argument can be kind of connected to the NSA debate: how much control the government should be allowed before it passes the threshold in which rights and freedom are starting to be taken away from citizens. If there is legislation to regulate media content, I also think that the way "toxic narratives" are discerned is very important, as well as other factors that decide how regulation will be implemented Less
