Sports and Masculinity

Sports has always presented me with an opportunity to go outside and play with my friends. The sport I mainly play is golf, though sometimes, I will play basketball with my friends. At least, the people on the golf team are respectful and kind-hearted. Some of them have helped me with school projects, due to their expertise. In golf, there is a pressure to do well all the time because one bad shot can ruin the team’s chances of winning. It’s possible, like any sports, someone can be shunned or teased due to that. It can then create a cycle in which most players turn to criminal activity. However, I believe that despite these chances, sports can have the opposite effect. At times, it can provide support whether it’s from the teammates or from the coach. However, I believe that sports play a huge role in determining if someone is conventionally masculine. Certain sports, like football, give people the impression that men are strong. Other sports like gymnastics or dance are more geared toward women because they all focus on the beauty of movements, like how people believed that women should only look beautiful.
