Gun Violence in the United States

Author: Sue C. | Category: Politics | Date: 05-30-2022

We have had 2 mass shootings in less than two weeks in the U.S., one in a supermarket in Buffalo, N.Y., and another in an elementary school in Texas.

Think about the following questions, find articles that would help you answer the questions, and then post both the links to your articles as well as your answers/thoughts in the comments section.

a. Why are mass shootings so common in the United States?  Is it because we have significantly more mentally-ill people who are capable ot mass shootings in the U.S. compared to other countries?  In other words, is it really a mental health issue, or is it because there are virtually no gun control regulations in the U.S.?

b.  What can we do about gun violence in the U.S.?

Base your answers to the above questions on evidence or facts--be sure to post links to articles containing relevant data/facts/information.

Mental illness is not something that can only be found in the U.S., and the question is whether people with those have the access to the weapons or not. Personally, I would say all guns owned by an individual should be illegal. One of the biggest reasons why Americans still oppose the idea of banning guns is because they feel the need to keep a gun in their house, and they’re considering “their protection” the number one priority. I would say other reasons have to do with freedom, and most people would hate restricting or making something that had been legal illegal. However, despite all of the “protecting yourself” logic, for the past few years, it became clear that the no control regulation didn’t work out. In fact, today. there are so many news reports of gun violation and murder as a result of the no control regulation. Less
