Bilingual education is important for kids that come from non-native speaker parents. It allows the children to connect to their cultural heritage and also to their community. While this seems hard, however, the benefits outweigh its determinants. By learning another language, the children can communicate better with their parents who may have come from a society different than America. From my experience, it has helped me to talk with my grandparents who usually never speak English. Speaking another language has also helped me connect to them because if I had not spoken their language, I would have only relied on my parents to translate making my relationship with them very minimal. Another benefit of getting bilingual education is that if one is traveling overseas, it helps people to understand not only what the people are saying, but also can experience more of the culture around the community. In conclusion, getting a bilingual education is very beneficial to kids because it helps them connect with relatives who might not speak good English and also helps them connect to other communities later on in life.
