essay response - musical planes

When I listen to modern pop music I often sing the lyrics and catch the beat. This type of music often changes my mood or energy. The way this type of music is designed makes the listener remember the song easily. I think getting a pop song stuck in your head happens during the sensuous musical plane. You are not thinking about the music and tend to only remember the “catchy” part of the song.
Another way one might listen to pop music is the expressive musical plane. I think when someone thinks about the lyrics or meaning behind a pop song, they contemplate more deeply on what the songwriter is typing to express. For example, when listening to a pop song about love, the listener might relate to the lyrics of that song. On the other hand, while listening to a pop song about heartbreak, they might feel sad emotions.
I often choose music that I think will cheer up my mood or match my current mood. I will have designated songs that will make me feel happier or make me feel calm. This means that I feel the emotions of the song through the expressive and sensuous musical plane because I listen to the mood of the music and the lyrics of a song.

Great analysis of how you listen to pop music on the sensuous and expressive planes! What about the third plane, musical? Do you ever find yourself analyzing the technicalities of pop songs-- melody/harmony, tone, rhythm?
