Book Review

Falter

By: Bill McKibben | Category: Juvenile Fiction | Year: 2019 ISBN: 9781250178275

In his inimitable style, Bill McKibben has, again, written a compelling visionary work on not only the threats to our environment, but also the obstacles to positive change, the shortcomings of proposed technological solutions, and reasons for hope. If people think this will just be a re-hash of all his old climate change themes, rest assured that it is NOT.

McKibben reprises the longstanding environmental problems that he has addressed before, but from new perspectives. It’s a must read for everyone who cares about our planet, wants to understand the broader political context, and contemplates taking ameliorative action.

Questions to Ponder:

  1. What are the most salient points to you?
  2. What do you think of McKibben’s skepticism toward tech solutions?
  3. Discuss the reasons for hope that he presents. What other reasons for hope can you think of?
